African Style

21 בספטמבר 2014

Thanks to artist Zoya Cherkassky, the imaginative wilds of Africa have invaded Tel Aviv's Port with her exhibit “African Style”, featuring ceramic plates, mugs, bowls and planters. The unifying theme presents images from the homeland of her husband, Suni, an African man whom Cherkassky, a native of Kiev, met in Israel.

The trajectory of her work is reminiscent of the journey of Paul Gauguin, the French Post-Impressionist artist who traveled to Tahiti, where he fell in love with a native woman. The exotic locale heavily influenced his art, just as it has with Cherkassky’s premiere as a ceramicist in a bold style akin to Picasso.
