Breaking Boundaries: Inbal Pinto and Avshalom Pollak

The show, Goldfish, part of the 2014 Summer Dance Festival at the Suzanne Dellal Dance Center, features elements of humor, poetry, and magic

In “Goldfish,” Inbal Pinto and Avshalom Pollak break down the boundary between reality and imagination, daily life and fantasy, and dance and drama. It’s the most ordinary setting you could think of: a rectangular white room furnished with a closet, some chairs, a tea set, and the objects of everyday life. Here is a place of domesticity and daily routine…or so it seems. “Goldfish,” a production by Inbal Pinto and Avshalom Pollak, finds beauty and inspiration in seemingly mundane events and objects. As reality gives way to fantasy, routine breaks down and a world of art and imagination emerges.

Avshalom Pollak and Inbal Pinto are accustomed to blurring lines and breaking boundaries. Pollak, an actor and director, and Pinto, a dancer and choreographer, formed their 12-member troupe with the goal of collapsing the distinction between dance and drama. “Goldfish,” for instance, begins with two dancers who develop their characters through movement; the dancers are then joined by two actors who carry the storyline forward. The show, part of the 2014 Summer Dance Festival at the Suzanne Dellal Dance Center, features elements of humor, poetry, and magic. It is targeted toward families, and children of all ages may attend.
