A graduate of the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, Geffen Refaeli's beautiful illustrations are equal parts surrealist, sad and thought-provoking. With her noteworthy Instagram account, @dailydoodlegram, (which has garnered 59,400 plus followers to date) she posts about one illustration a day for her many fans – scribbling together imaginative moments in time – most inspired by her friends' own cacophony of Instagram images. Her work is so admired, she regularly gets pictures in her inbox of her own art work inked on strangers' bodies.

Her Instagram is filled with detailed black and white illustrations of whimsical scenarios that jump off the screen – each conveying a lively characteristic all their own – at the juncture where nature meets man. A swipe through her account reveals everything from a faceless person, hand outstretched with an enormous bouquet of thorny cacti, to lovers enmeshed in a bed of pillows and butterfly wings.

Reoccurring subjects include winter trees, scissors, fish and umbrellas – sometimes, surprisingly, all in one image. "To me they are like stories or a very wide experience compressed into a small image,” says Refaeli. “I'm only passionate in life about stories, cats, pastries and the people I love. If I can somehow translate any of that into illustration then I'm passionate about that."

"Sometimes I suddenly have an idea or thought when I see an image and it connects in my mind to something else I saw or thought of that day,” she continues, “and sometimes, in the end of the day, I sit and look at all the photos side by side and try to find the story.”
