From stores that import treasures from Europe to small boutiques offering nostalgic picks, our friends at “AT” magazine compiled a list of 11 recommended vintage and second-hand shops in Tel Aviv, because recycled fashion feels so much better than fast fashion

26 בנובמבר 2025

(The article was originally published in AT magazine, 20.11.25)
If once second-hand clothes were reserved for especially brave fashionistas or students with empty pockets and excellent taste, today vintage and second-hand have long since gone mainstream – but it’s important to remember: not all second-hand is vintage. Vintage speaks the language of eras, style, and soul; second-hand can also be someone’s Zara dress from last season. In Tel Aviv, the capital of effortless cool, these two categories live side by side, and in the best shops, they even blend beautifully. We went for a spin (yes, with a reusable tote) to find the 11 vintage and second-hand stores you need to know – whether you’re after a one-off look, a piece with a past, or simply a worthy alternative to guilt-free splurging.

Chelsea

What began as a genuine passion for second-hand fashion has become one of the most impressive shops in the genre – thanks entirely to Michal Sonsino-Ganor, a former fashion designer who founded Chelsea about a decade ago. Her sharp curatorial eye shows in every rack and every shelf, and the fact that the place showcases around 7,000 items doesn’t contradict the high level of meticulous selection. The store spans two spacious floors in the Gan HaHashmal neighborhood, with a spot-on mix of vintage and second-hand: from Zara and familiar brands to high-end designer names. Their new Closets project is another bonus – a clever initiative that lets women rent a personal closet and sell items from their own wardrobe as if it were a little boutique. A must-stop for lovers of the genre.

Aderet: the First Lady of second-hand

For two decades now, “Aderet” has been a household name in the local second-hand scene. Since 2004, the central Tel Aviv shop has offered an addictive mix of vintage, retro, designers’ and brands’ overstock (from here and abroad), women’s, men’s, and a bit of kids’ – all with super-precise curation and in excellent condition. In the spirit of sustainable fashion, the clothes come from the wardrobes of the shop’s customers, not from faraway imports. At Aderet you’ll find everything – from Levi’s jeans and Adidas sneakers, through Atta dresses and ‘80s band tees, to bags from luxury houses or capsule pieces from Zara and Topshop. And the prices? About a third of the original. Dozens of new items arrive every day, so there’s a reason to come back again (and again). By the way, if your closet is begging for a clear-out – Aderet also offers closet organization and sorting services, and even personal styling.

Argaman: luxury pieces at accessible prices

If you’re into Chanel, Prada & co. – but your budget says otherwise – you should meet Argaman: the stylish, polished sister of the second-hand shop “Aderet,” located right next door. It’s a paradise for anyone seeking luxury items in excellent condition at prices that sound almost made up. Behind the magic is Ofira Ober – the mother of Aderet and Argaman – with a rare knack for curating the kind of items that truly thrill. This is where you can find a Chloé bag for 250 shekels or Gucci jeans for less than a date-night dinner – all from the closets of other Tel Avivians. A consumer, stylistic, and ecological win.

Itay Gonen Vintage: the most stylish ‘80s party in town

What do you do when you’re after real vintage with character and not another faux-retro tee? You head to Itay Gonen. This tireless collector knows how to spot one-of-a-kind pieces that reveal a story, an era, and a personality – from the ‘50s to the ‘90s. In his intimate, colorful shop, right in Tel Aviv’s beating heart, hide rare gems you won’t see in any mall or chain – and that’s exactly the magic. There’s also a carefully curated corner dedicated to luxury brands and designers – for those who like their second-hand with a high-end twist.

Verde: from Italy with love

Vintage with Italian glam? Meet Verde, Orna Shaul’s boutique – a collector with a sharp eye and an open passport. Every item here comes from Italy via personal import, handpicked as if curating the wardrobe of a European movie star. It’s a timeless collection of the world’s most coveted designer pieces, blending European chic with Jaffa warmth, just like the beautiful location in the Noga neighborhood. In short, a must-stop.

Buy Kilo: style by the kilo

Even before “sustainability” became a ubiquitous hashtag, back in 2014 a European concept landed in Tel Aviv with a local twist: fashion by weight. The first Buy Kilo shop opened in the Montefiore neighborhood, where a pharmacy once stood, swapping prescriptions for addictive vintage pieces. Since then, two more branches have joined, including the Florentin one, considered the wildest and most experimental of them all. The idea is simple: you pick an item, weigh it, and pay by category. Prices range from 100 to 400 NIS per kilo, and you get a shopping experience with Parisian aroma, Tel Aviv vibes, and that treasure-hunt thrill worth every gram.

Lulu Vintage: a private collection for connoisseurs

What started during COVID as a personal initiative became one of the city’s most precise vintage shops. Avia Kleinman Sharon was laid off and began selling items from her private collection on Instagram – until she realized she wasn’t the only one in love with high-quality vintage. She quickly began sourcing more and more luxury pieces, and today Lulu Vintage is a small, stylish boutique on Sheinkin – the street she’s called home for over 15 years. The curation leans into elite brands and rare finds, but the vibe is warm and accessible, just like Avia herself.

Kassima: the coolest in the scene

Some people collect vintage – and then there’s Avishai Pis, who’s practically an entire scene unto himself. Beyond his exquisite taste, he’s one of the most stylish figures around, and his shop, Kassima, reflects that completely. It’s a place that celebrates vintage in the broadest, most colorful, and upbeat sense – with plenty from the ‘80s, ‘90s, and Y2K, perfect for anyone missing the days when low-rise jeans were the height of chic. Kassima recently moved and resettled in the city’s south, but the magic is the same.

Flashback: a second-hand remix

In the heart of King George Street, between tattoo parlors and smoothie stands, hides one of the city’s most creative shops. At Flashback they don’t just settle for second-hand clothes – they take them a step further and remix them. Track suits become tops, jeans get washes, rips, and style, and every item gets a mini makeover that turns it into a statement piece. Basically, everything you’d do yourself if you only had the time, energy, or a sewing machine. On the racks you’ll find vintage dresses, jeans in every cut, ‘90s windbreakers, and colorful leggings that delight the eye and the heart – and of course, a real flashback to the past.

Loni Vintage: couture and nostalgia in Jaffa

Loni Vintage by Lydia Messing isn’t just a store – it’s a living museum of fashion nostalgia. It’s one of the city’s most veteran and impressive vintage shops, drawing stylists, collectors, and fashion addicts alike. Messing, who simply lives and breathes vintage, flies to auctions around the world to bring rare pieces to Jaffa – like Victorian opera gloves, a military hat from Napoleon’s era, or a dress Grace Kelly may actually have worn. You’ll find names like Gucci, Chanel, Prada, Celine, Fendi, and Dior, but there are also plenty of more accessible treasures (everything in life is relative) – for those who come for the vibe, not just the logo.

Segunda Vintage: a piece with a story

On bustling Levinsky Street, not far from spice stalls and old-school delis, sits Segunda – a vintage shop with soul. Shelly Katz, the owner and curator, picks every item as if it’s the one and only: dresses with a past, rare tops, and jeans in every cut and brand, including great Levi’s hiding in the shop’s backyard. The atmosphere is familial, warm, and unpretentious, the kind that makes you feel at home. It’s almost impossible to walk in and not walk out with something – because every item here comes with character, and with the feeling it was waiting just for you, truly, not as a cliché.

Nadya Hezboun, Bethlehem

For Nadya Hezboun, it all started with a quote by poet Mahmoud Darwish: “The land expands as much as the measure of your dream”. It was in 2012, and something about those words resonated deeply with her, compelling her to create. Not long after that initial burst of inspiration, those words were translated into a modern clothing and jewellery collection.

Ms. Hezboun’s Palestinian identity was clearly evident in the collection that featured locally sourced materials and Arabic calligraphy. Recently, she returned to Mahmoud Darwish once again, and his words: “A moon will rise from my darkness”. The final result is a stunning collection, featuring dresses with Arabesque prints, typography woven with golden threads and suits made of rich fabrics.

Noora Abdeen-Khalifeh, Ramallah

Delicate blue flowers and geometric shapes decorate a shirt designed by 32 year old Nurah Abdin. Even a brief glance at Ms. Abdin’s designs makes it immediately obvious: she uses the traditional, painstaking process of manual embroidery, which lends an item a strong presence.

“I draw the pattern for each design and then choose the right fabric. After that I embroider it manually,” says Ms. Abdin, who claims one of the most significant parts of her creative process is the thought that precedes it: “I imagine a woman like my mother, who is my biggest inspiration. She is always elegant and unique.”

Natalie Tahan, Jerusalem

Like Abdin, Tahan is also drawn to traditional Palestinian embroidery and dress patterns. However, Ms. Tahan uses modern printing techniques in order to achieve a unique effect. The result is arresting: the rich colors and flatness of the print, along with the voluminous pattern, might remind one of a queen’s robe, with a modern touch.

By choosing to print the embroidery patterns, rather than produce them by hand, Ms. Tahan accelerates the creative process considerably. However, it is evident that the time saved is invested is small details, such as perfect seams and even well-crafted labels.
